If you thought the ARC would simply take all this money and equally divide it up amongst all the victim's families then you didn't do you research and have no one to blame but yourself.
Well said ... I totally agree. All (reputable) charities are going to tell you up front what your money will (and will not) be used for. The Red Cross clearly stated the purpose of their funds.

Do the research ...
Know what you're donating money for ...

You said Toyota has contributed nothing.. but if you truly searched you would've found this:

"Lexus associates and dealers would like to offer our sincere condolences to all those who were affected by the terrorist attacks in New York, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania.

Few events in history have sent shock waves through the world as these attacks did. While it is a tumultuous time, we applaud the heroic efforts and spirit of kindness that have emerged.

Lexus is the luxury division of Toyota, which is taking an active role to support relief efforts. In addition to a $1 million donation to the American Red Cross, Toyota has established a fund to match donations from its 28,000 U.S. employees. Toyota and Lexus dealers across the country have also demonstrated their support through contributions to the Red Cross.

Additionally, Toyota has offered the use of its seaport facilities in Newark, N.J., to the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey, as well as the use of emergency vehicles and forklifts.

Lexus and Toyota will continue to provide support during this crisis. Like the rest of the country, we believe the events of September 11 will not weaken our great nation, but rather make it stronger."

Just wanted everyone else to know...

Isn't Porsche owned by VW? So even if the original post were true, and it appears it isn't, Porsche should go under VW.

You know. . .this really, really pisses me off!!!

Who cares what the car companies are doing! What happened on September 11th was devistating to all and I have seen so many companies take advantage of the situation. . .Ford claims they are "driving America" and offering 0% financing on many of their vehicles. . .oh, yeah. . .GREAT!!! I am so glad that our Nation faced a horrble tragedy like this and 5k+ people lost their lives so I can save $100 a month on my car payment!!! This is so wrong!

What the HELL!!! I saw this Chrysler commercial the other night that had a tag line "Let's move on America!" WTF!!! Chrysler's celebrating American Independence with 0% on their shitty vehicles! WOO HOO!!! What a feeling folks must have as they drive away from the lot. . .

Anyways, it's great to see that companies across America are contributing to the disaster relief efforts but don't pitty me with your shitty interest rates!

Sorry to have to say this, but the American Red Cross has a long and scandalous history of profiting from disasters while volunteers hand out donuts and blankets. Any large scale housing they do is in public buildings and managed by volunteers.

They also profit mightily from the sale of donated blood. They even profit from the near monopoly they have on CPR training (which doesn't really work anyway.) They also for years -- along with some other big names -- prevented smaller charities from becoming involved in United Way. They continue to press for unfair quotas of undesignated funds.

The latest CEO, Bernadette Healey, was fired (or perhaps really did quit) primarily because she segragated the September 11 money from the general Disaster Fund. This prevents the Red Cross from quietly retaining a large portion of the biggest windfall in its history as it has with other disasters.

The American Red Cross Disaster fund is believed to be the largest bank account of any nonprofit in the world. Everything they've done so far could have easily been paid for without jeopardizing the existing fund.

Cthree and I agree about this: Know your charity!
