The passengers were not afraid of the hijackers/knives or whatever. They were concern with the BOMB thread that the hijackers said they were carrying.

Actually, I watched a lot of the coverage last night. One report said that the plane that hit the helicopter landing pad at the Pentagon might have been heading for the White House. The reporter said that since the White House is hard to see from the air (lots of trees and not that big from the air), the terrorist pilot(s) could have just gave up and hit the Pentagon instead.

Actually its the government saying it, not the news. And they won't disclose why they believe this, but its safe to assume that they have a solid reason for saying this- that its not just speculation on the part of news reporters.
