Anne Rice fans out there.....
Anyone read her latest "Blackwood Farm"? What's your take on it? Do you need to read "Feast of All Saints" before reading "Blackwood Farm"? I was wondering if any of the 'families' were tied to the previous book.
First and foremost, let me say that "Blackwood Farm" is yet another master piece by Anne Rice. I could not drop the book until it was done. It's a slow starter - typical of Anne Rice - but it's worth that wait as always.
You do not need to read Feast of All Saints in order to understand these characters. In fact, this is a brand new "family," which is why the book is slow to start, as she has to lay out the background for the action. It helps a lot if you are familiar with the Mayfair Witches, as Mona, Michael and Rowan Mayfair as big part of the plot. Lestat is one of the main characters, so having read the Vamp. Chronicles is a must. Merrick comes in at the end as well, and of course the Talamasca is always there "watching."
(BTW, this is not ElectricFire, it's his g/f

I waited forever for "Blood and Gold" and when I got it I was almost put to sleep reading it, didn't even finish it, what a let down. I purchased "Blackwood" the week it came out, 2 blocks from Anne's house in New Orleans, read the first chapter, and just couldn't get into it. Why can't they all be like "Vittorio" or "The Vampire Lestat"?
I'll read them when I get bored.

thanks for the info! i got it as a gift for christmas and haven't started reading it just yet. i have read up on the mayfair clan and have read the vampire novels as well. thanks for the heads up on Feast of All Saints, eve. and thanks for the info on 'Blood & Gold', S2Kguy. i almost bought that one myself, but hesitated when i didn't get much feedback from other friends about it. i did just wrap up 'Vittorio' a few weeks ago and found this character to be very wordy in the beginning. as always, this is a great group of people. i can always come to this forum and tap into it's vast 'database' of information

Yes, Pandora and Vittorio were unforgettable. I wish there was more to both of them. I hate when a great book ends. But I would recommend (to those who have not already read it) to completely skip Blood and Gold. It was horrible. I think that Anne Rice has certain quotas that she fails to meet (like every author) and every now and then the editor just demands for the book to be finished. So she writes it, but it's useless. However, one can tell that Blackwood was a book written with a lot of love
Does anyone know what (and when) her next book will be? She just can't write them fast enough for me. A week after one comes out, I'm done and ready for another

S2Kguy, you are wrong about Blackwood. It's just a slow starter. Give it a chance and you'll fall in love with Quinn. It's as good as Pandora. Most of Anne Rice's books require some patience in the beginning. "The Mayfair witches" was incredibly slow to begin, but wasn't it ever so worth it.

I'll take your word for it Eve, I suppose I'm just still mad about "Blood", after the "Vampire Lestat" EVERY Anne Rice VC fan was begging for the full story of Marius, she just waited too long and didn't give it what it needs to capture readers. I'll read it, but after "Blackwood".
