Default Another Ebay Scam! They got me!

So I sold my PS2 on ebay. (I know horrible timing.)

In my auction it clearly states that I only ship to the lower 48.

This guy buys it. BIN for $100. He says that he wants me to ship it to his son who is studying in Nigeria and to get me a quote for it. I got a quote for $30.

I sent him a money request through paypal for $130.

I get an email from paypal saying that the funds have been deducted from his account and "APPROVED" but they are holding it until I foward the tracking # to them.

(I'm a dumba$$)
I ship the PS2.

Yes, to Nigeria.

I Emailed "paypal" the tracking number and they reply saying they want me to foward a "scanned" copy of the receipt. Im figuring they want me to take pics of the receipt, upload them and send them.

WTF is me at this point.

I call paypal, and as I was reading the lines of the "legit paypal" email, the rep interrupted me and started reading the email VERBATIM from where I left off. I was shocked.

Now Im pissed.

They said its a recent scam and to check the post office if I can recall the package.

The post office called "international package mngmnt" or something and they said the package is already too far gone for any USPS department to intercept it.

So what Im thinking now is that I dont have the $130 for my PS2 and I basically packed up my PS2 and paid $30 for USPS to ship it so some S.O.B. in Nigeria.

Paypal told me to call them back after I had visited the post office.

I havent called them yet, I dont see what they can do.

The email looked 100% legit. It had the paypal heading, trans # looked 100% like another email I got that I KNEW was from paypal themselves. I kept comparing and they were the same!

Ill foward it to someone if they can post it on here. Im half drunk and dont feel to figure it out right now. If I had a spare $1500 Id fly to that Nigeria address and wait for my PS2.

What can I do??

Unfortunately, not much. You could begin by telling ebay to ban the person. As soon as you saw Nigeria you should have said NO WAY!!!

At least it wasn't for more money that that...you got off easy compared to some of the horror stories you hear.

Am I missing something? Paypal approved his payment, so you should be able to withdraw the money. It sounds like paypal got scammed and not you since they approved the transfer. Maybe I need to read the papal terms of service. It probably says they are not responsible for anything... good luck.

It wasn't an email from Paypal. It was an email from the "buyer" spoofing a Paypal email.

Oh my God! You sent something to Nigeria? It's a well-documented scam for many many years; heck, even decades. I used to get emails saying to send stuff for "his son" in Nigeria, or to send them a money order and they'll reimburse it with a greater amount. "His son" can kiss my ass!
