Default Anthrax in NYC, great.

In case you haven't heard. This has now been a confirmed case of Anthrax in NYC, a NBC employee who works at 30 Rock.

Makes me feel great, seeing as though I only work a block away from there and I was in Rockefeller center post office (the actual post office in the basement, not the NBC mail room) yesterday.

This sucks. But what can you do? I plan on staying here at work for a normal business day and coming back on Monday, but this is really starting to freak people out. Its all everyone in the office is talking about.

Don't stress over it too much. 3 cases out of 270million people is a 90million:1 chance...you will win the Powerball jackpot before catching anthrax.

My wife is a doctor. Cipro or doxycycline will take care of the infection if you did catch it. It is only a problem if it is left untreated.

Have a good day, and a good weekend!

Well, if there was any question about us being at war, this should clarify it.

I quess it's something we all have to adust to since it does not appear to be something that will end quickly (maybe never, given the mentality of the animals that would do such a thing).

I can't blame you for being scared, I know I would be if I knew it was that close; however, as mentioned already -- the odds are all in your favor. Just keep telling yourself and others that you have a better chance of getting hit by lightening twice on a sunny day.

Anthrax in south florida infected two people in an office building near my home. They had sprayed it on every keyboard/desk in the office...****ing sick people. Stuff like that just messes with psyche.

Tom,

I know exactly what you mean. . . Now that the World Financial Center is closed indefinitely, my company has me working in the Paramount Building on Broadway (when I'm not drving to Parsippany ). . . This latest incident has everyone freaked out all over again. . .

I am honestly just waiting for the "other shoe to drop". . .

A month ago, I was wondering if Bonds could hit 70, whether Jordan's return would be memorable and how would Ripken's last game (then at the Stadium) would turn out. . .

Who would have thought things would change so much so quickly. . .

The good news is that the type in the NBC building was the cutaneous variety...that is, absorbed through the skin. This variety of anthrax is still found in the wild and accounts for the vast majority of cases diagnosed around the world. It is also MUCH less lethal than the aerosolized type that killed the guy in south Florida. I strongly recommend checking WebMD.com or some other medical info sight...that will help de-sensationalize some of this Anthrax business. The news media aren't that careful...

It's the same bacteria either way though, right? You just have to breath a x,000 spores to acheive a respiratory infection. They said the guy who died in Florida had poor eyesight and was holding the letter very close to his face, possibly smelling it.

My favorite false alarm was the powdery substance found in a consulate (or something similar) in the Netherlands. It turned out to be cocaine!
