Im a bartender. Been doing it since I was 18.

No school, its a waste of money, dont do it. 99.9% of bars hire through friends, not from these bullcrap schools. They are 650 bucks wasted.

I barteneded all through college and grad school. I started out learning in a restaurant, since they aren't as demanding. After trying bars, I went back to restaurants, since the money was much more stable. I never did the club things, as I didn't want to work till 4 or 5 in the morning!! If you wanna make the good moeny, find a bar where all the restaurant workers go when they get off of work. They all want to get drunk, and they tip awesome!!

That was one very awesome perk!!

You hook up other bartneders when thry came in to eat, and they hook you up when you go to their establishment.

The only thing is, you don't save any money at all. Everyone tips so much, that you end up spending the same. And if you don't tip them good, then next time you come in your hook up is gone. We may drink $100 in alcohol, and only get charged $20, but the tip is gonna be $50 - $70 for the hook up!

I wouldnt really say that they are a waste, it depends on where you want to bartend at? Some bartenders that work at very nice restaurants around here make 200 a night and sometimes more. I did it for a year, age 20-21, and I loved it---met tons of people--chicks mostly, drank for free and made killer money. I was a sophmore/junior in college and worked fri night, sat night, and sun. Raked in about 700-850 a week, cash. I had no complaints, but my g/f hated it because there was so much interaction with hot bitches.

I was at restaurant since age 18, quit it because it's a dead-end job and I got the feeling I was gonna hit the boss' son's head with a tequila bottle...long story

Great for college, but you'll get nowhere.
