I'm looking at adding a sport ute to my arsenal and just can't help admiring a new Durango R/T that my local dealer has. Just wondering if anyone has had any experiences with them. The gas mileage really sucks though. thanks.

I have a an 2001 5.9 R/T Durango with the all the bells and whistles. You are right about it being a gas hog though.
I just recently went on a road trip in it and it was wonderful . Get it out on to the highway and the gas consumption comes down to a reasonable level. 3500 km driving over four days. The seats are very comfortable and I never seemed to run out of power from the engine (Part of the trip was through the Rockies on the BC/Alberta border.)
I would highly recommend this vehicle. It is a nice balance vehicle size (it is considered a midsize SUV) and interior and towing capacity.

Don't do it. They are nice when new but rattle, leak coolant from intake gaskets, need all ball joints replaced by 30k, go through brakes like mad (very heavy trucks), suck gas, etc. I run a service station & have many case examples. STAY AWAY!! get a 4Runner or Yukon or something, just avoid Dodge. If you don't you'll be sorry.

I agree.. stay away from Dodge. I prefer Japanese cars myself. I have a 97 Lexus LX450.. I have had no problems whatsoever, it's a solid truck. I had a Land Cruiser before it. That was just as good. The dealer is wonderful, they're willing to do anything to make sure I'm happy. I'm looking to trade in now, probably get the new Lexus LX470.
