Default Any free CD copy SW for Windows/XP?

I bought a CD-writer two years ago and it came with Roxio Easy CD version 4 SW for creating CDs. It was installed on Windows/2000 and it worked pretty well. I mostly use my CD-writer for data backup and data distribution, I only need to copy a (non-data) CD maybe twice a year.

Then I upgraded to Windows/XP (SP2 not installed yet) and it came with its own CD writing SW for creating data CDs. It was great, because I didn't need to install any third party SW to create data CDs. But now I have a need to copy a non-data CD, and Windows/XP does not provide that capability. So I tried to install my Roxio SW and it said it is not compatible with Windows/XP.

I don't want to spend another $100 to upgrade my Easy CD SW just to use it once or twice a year. So is there any reliable free SW that would allow me to copy an entire CD on Windows/XP? Thanks.

xp compatablity started with version 5, with a patch.

check roxio's site, there may be an update for version4. also, check ebay, there are MANY bundled discs for roxio5 and up, along with NERO for like a buck or two.

bundled means it is a disc that comes with hardware, usually a lite version. the retail versions have a lot more features.

When you say non-data, is that to imply audio? If so, I highly recommend iTunes as the end-all solution for your digital audio needs.

I already checked Roxio's site, and there is no upgrade for version 4 to be Win/XP compatible. They recommend buying version 7 (the current version) for $90.

By non-data CD, I mean anything from audio CD to VCD to photo CD to bootable CD-ROM to MP3 CD and so on. The problem is that the base Win/XP SW does not support anything more than just data files in folders. If it is just audio CDs, I believe there is a way to do it with the Microsoft Media Player without additional third party SW involved, though I have not tried it because I am not copying an audio CD.

By the way, I am not interested in copying DVDs, just plain CDs. Thanks.
