There doesn't appear to be any scientific backing for the 64oz of water per day: http://www.the-aps.org/press/journal/relea...ease8-13-02.htm Of course, if you work out and sweat a lot, you may need this amount, but there apparently is no reason to drink this much water as a "rule".

Yes, I know Bally's as well another big gyms basically want to sell. They hire people who are in most part salesmen. Trust me it is frustrating to see trainers who look like S%$T and know nothing about training. It makes me look bad and gives others the impression that all trainers are a joke. In my defense I have over 4 years experience working out. So I'm one of the few who actually looks like a trainer and knows about training.

i used to work for Bally's also and the things some of the trainers made some ppl do are ridiculous. ie. ballistic stretches right from the start etc...

some words of advice from a Kinesiology Major. please use proper form. if you can't maintain proper form while doing your exercise (squirming, flinging up the weight etc), then you're using too much weight. your motions should be controlled.
don't let your ego get the best of you. 90% of the time people in the gym working out don't pay attention to what you're doing unless you're grunting up a storm on the bench.
also, stretch. stretch. stretch. it reduces soreness and keeps your limbs within a good range of motion. ever see some guys with huge legs that can't touch they're toes? it's sad.
keep a log of how much you're lifting, the reps, sets etc. you can use this as reference to see if you're improving and to see what works for you or if you just need to change up your routine.

can't relaly think of anything else except be patient, and dieting is 75% of the battle. you won't morph into Bruce Lee in a week nor will you get his figure by working out for 2 hours and going to Jack in the Box on the way home.

good luck

oh yeah. work bigger muscle groups first before you do smaller groups. for example, do chest, then go to triceps or quads before calves.

keep your workouts simple, until you think you're ready for something new and more difficult. don't go into the gym not ever doing a leg workout and jump straight to free weight squats. you'll end up hurting yourself without the proper knowledge and "training" per say

ok, when i think of more i'll jump back in.

I agree, the only time I ever notice how much someone's lifting is when they have A LOT of weight on and it's only to make sure they don't injure themselves (or maybe that's to see if they WILL injure themselves???)

lol, i've seen some ppl at the gym benching waaay too much without a spotter.

once i saw a guy (actually, he was a TRAINER AT BALLY'S) just drop the weights while doing a bench press because his muscles just gave out. he ended up having an avulsion. his pec major ripped right of the insertion point on his humerus.

please have a spotter
