Anybody own a Labrador?
Because my 8 month old Lab, whom I love to death, keeps on chewing everything up in my backyard. He chewed up my pool vaccum (because I accidentally left it on the side, although I would like to leave some stuff in my backyard without him chewing it up), chewed up my beach balls, chews up my sandals, and basically chews up everything he can get his hands on.
Is there anyway to train my dog NOT to chew everything in sight? And I know it's past his time of teething.
Need some veteran Lab help.
Cheers,
Bryan

Bryan, not much you can do - unless you keep him/her in an area that doesn't have anything to chew on besides what you given him. i had a lab for a few years so i think i know a thing or two. they are wonderful animals and you'll love them to death. they do take 2 years or so to get mature (mentally) though
some training would help, but they get expensive.
good luck.

My dog would dig some holes and when I caught her doing that, I would put Tabasco sause in the hole and push her nose in it. Then I would put a little sause on her nose as well and keep telling her "Bad girl!!!!" and "NO!!!!!". She no longer digs anywhere. It's best to catch them in the act because they will remember your scolding them much better. If they chew up something 3 hours ago and you scold them for it, they don't understand why. You have to keep an eye on and keep after your dog to make them learn.
Bryan:
I have two golden retrievers, The best that you can do for the first 2 to 3 years is to doggy proof as best as you can. There does comes a time when they will mellow and the chewing stops.
But it can be a long road. I actually have pictures of my boys with trees that they have Killed

They don't quit chewing up stuff ever... the best you can do is to give them substitutes. The best thing is to only leave her stuff out in the backyard where she can get to it, anything thing else needs to be put out of reach. We just had to have our Chocolate Lab put down, she was 11 1/2 years old, and going into congestive heart failure. In time you will look back at this time and laugh about it, even though it is frustrating right now. We have a 12 week old White German Shepherd now (gluttons for punishment) and are going through the same thing, she chews everything, including the cat.

My friend used to dab tabasco on everything. Sooner or later the dog stopped biting anything rubbery... Give him some bones to knaw on...
