Anyone else with chronic anxiety?
So I don't mind sharing at all, and wonder if anyone else has a similar story.
Ever since I was in the 7th grade or so, I was constantly having issues with anxiety over even the smallest issues. The things that made me the most anxious were totally random. I couldn't watch anyone read a paper I wrote. I had no curfew in HS but was freaked out my parents would worry and had to call home two or three times whenever I was out late. I would get so stressed about finding parking for places in LA on the weekends that I'd freak out and have panic attacks.
Ironically, the things most people flip out about didn't bother me. I've spoken in front of 2000+ people many times without even thinking twice. I am great in job interviews and never break a sweat. I realized whatever was going on wasn't situational.
Anyway, I know it's a "taboo" medication right now because of how popular it is with recreational use, but I started taking Xanax about a year ago in low doses. A year later, the same dose is still just as effective daily. It's amazing just HOW MUCH better I function on a daily basis.
Honestly, I think it's a shame people are so oblivious to considering anxiety something that is treatable. Right now, I know 1/2 of the people I speak with are stressed enough with some aspect of their life to undermine their ability to function on the highest possible level. There are so many great things to fix this- but they are all stigmatized.
The main argument people have against these drugs is the impact they have on focus or cognitive ability. The final knife in this theory was when I took a standardized IQ test on the Xanaz I'd taken two years ago. I scored 4 points higher now. Same test, but they draw from a random pool of questions. Obviously, it doesn't hurt your cognitive functions.
Random thought, but S2K has a broad group of members who I thought might add to this.

Thanks for sharing!
I sometimes get social anxiety, after spending a number of hours working alone. For example I work from home so if I don't get out or catch up with friends for a few days I literally won't see anyone!! SO when I go to the shops I feel anxious that people are looking at me strangely etc. Makes it harder to go to social events.
One of the downsides of working from home. I just have to make an effort to make sure I keep in touch with everyone.
