Default Anyone else work graveyard?

I looked around and couldn't find a thread about people working graveyard shifts. I know that the s2k crowed is normaly more "well to do" and wouldn't be bothered with working a shift they didn't like, but some of us are forced to.

But I was just wondering if there was anyone else on here at 3am bored at work? I'm still in school so the 11pm to 7am shift works well for me right now.

I don't work one, but my brother works 4am-4pm one week, and 4pm-4am the next. IMO, "well-to-do" isn't really limited to the 9-5 crowd. It really depends on what you do. Most people who work such odd hours just treasure their free time too much for message boards.

lol yeah when I'm not at work I'm deffently not on the computer on a message board. But while I'm stuck here I have nothing better to do.

Sometimes I go on to pages like howstuffworks to.....well find out how stuff works lol. But I get bored of learning after a while

I enjoy comming here because I feel a sense of fellowship with people who have common interestes. But not that many people are on while I am or so it seems anyway.

I work at a condo front desk so I'm deffently not well to do. I guess I just assumed this shift is for a 'certain' kind of people. Its funny people here at work always ask me how I can afford the S on my pay. All I can say is its nice to have a sugar momma

Haha.... well, at least it doesn't sound too stressful.

Don't kid yourself. There are lots of "blue collar" guys who work graveyard and make far more than most people on this board. My brother has only been at his job for 4 years and makes more than our other sibling, who has his Masters and works as a consultant. There is more than one way to skin a cat.

I've worked a few jobs with odd hours before. The best paying job I ever worked involved about 5 "working" hours and 7 "free" hours sandwiched between. I personally like not having sat/sun as my off days. That's when you stand in line everywhere you go.

Yeah it is nice to go to the post office at 9am on a tuesday lol! (I did that today accualy...I was the only person there lol)

I wish I had sat/sun off b/c thats the only days my wife has off that and working for a place like this is kind of demeaning its a 5 star place that costs around $500 a night and the worst unit is selling for 1.8 mill. So the people here are pretty well to do.

But its just funny b/c there was a death in my family two weeks ago and I had to take a few days off to go to the state they live in, and I didn't get paid for one day of it but my wife did. It was my family not hers....just kind of funny.

Sorry to hear about the loss.

It's hard when it comes to paid leave, for any reason. I've found it almost boils down to how much trouble it is for the employer to cover your shift/workload while gone. With desk jobs in a big office, that's almost a non-factor for a couple of days. At a front desk or retail position, it's a major PITA for them. Even moreso for a graveyard.

I'm about to start a lab position. All I've worked is service/sales since I was 17. It's a little better pay, but I sure wonder what it'll be like to go hours without speaking to a customer.

thanks

Yeah I understand the buisness behind it but I was pretty shaken up by the unexpected death and I could have really used a few days to get my head straight but because its not cost effective I have to just suck it up (I can't afford not to get paid for more than a few days). It just sucks.

I'm talking to a company in Denver to work in there IT department. The money is enouf to make us want to move and all that. We have been looking into moving out that way anyway so its good for us

Hope it works out for ya. My guess is you will be ok without talking to customers

Honestly service has always been my forte. I spent 4 years doing it with insurance and a year working public relations for a major non-profit. I'm just burned out and realize I can't make a career without something else on a resume. I can usually either make people think I understand them, or make them think they are wrong. Whichever fits the situation better.

its funny to read you guys type in the middle of the night. im on the other side of the world where it's blazing hot out.

i think night shifts are not for everyone. if ur a people person, you'll miss being around everyone. i think i would personally love the quiet.
