Default Anyone ever been offered a bribe?

The thread about bribing a cop made me think about the other side of the coin. I once had a really sleazy, scumbag client who owned a metal recycling yard that had all sorts of really nasty contamination. After quite extensive investigation, I submitted a report to him with really negative conclusions about his property. Because of this, he wouldn't be able to get the property refinanced. He wanted me to change my conclusions. I refused. He took me into his office, closed the door, set a briefcase on his desk, opened it, and laid out $25,000 cash, large bills, in front of me. I said "I could do this once, pal, and then I would be out of business. I kind of like what I do. If you want to talk about, say $5 million, I'll maybe think aboit it." Then I got up and walked out of his office, really, really hoping he wasn't going to pull out a gun and shoot me in the back.

So did you invest in a good Kevlar vest? That's pretty spooky.

When I was a CFO it would happen quite frequently. The numbers never approached $25k though; maybe that much in a year. I never understood why people would think I'd work at a nonprofit if I was the bribe-taking kind.

$25,000 is chump change. $5 million is more like it.

Yes several times, mo I never took it. The thought of all that money and what it would do always made me think. But in the long run it's not worth the money if you get caught.

But for 5 million I might just do it,

He: "Would you sleep with me for a million dollars?"
She: "Of course."
He: "Would you sleep with me for fifty dollars?"
She: "No- what do you think I am, a whore?"
He: "We've already established that. Now we're just haggling price."
