$700K-$1mil? wow, not bad.

I also grew up in a bigger house than that. Only 5 bedrooms, but you can imagine how big they were.

I could have more than I do in terms of square footage, but I don't see the point! As it is, I have to yell at the top of my lungs to be heard from one end of the house to the other (for someone to get the phone, not just screaming for general purpose), and that seems pretty impersonal.

Give me a 1920's Key West style bungalow with a lot of windows, a 2 car garage, decent sized piece of property, and about 1650 sf, and I would have all I need!

Must be nice to have something like that. First 'home' I remember was a Motel room. Lived there for a few years, then my dad got a job offer over in Pennsylvania. We moved in with some family we had over there. Pennsylvania sucked, so within 6 months, we came back to California and had to live in a trailor for a couple months until we could find a place to rent. Finally found a decent place to rent and ended up staying there for 11 years. Parents finally got out of the hole they dug for themselves with the IRS and became home*owners* for the first time in their lives just a couple years ago. The home is no more than 1,000 sq. ft., but it's theirs none the less.

that first house seems like a great bargain for 700k-1mill, if you were here. the property alone would probably cost 3/4 of that. BUT, i love the house! thanks for the pics!

hondas2k - what a beauty! large houses are great and all, but unless you have a lot of ppl living there, i see your point. hey, you could always just park the S in it! lol looks like you have enough room! now THAT would be cool...under some lights and all! hahahah

whytei3oi: man, my family was like that too...but we were immigrants. my father was the first to come over, so he had no help from anyone. he was here alone for a year, making minimum wage and barely eating each day. i remember him going to work at 4pm (night shift), then sitting in a garage waiting for ppl to call from ppl who broke down in the middle of the night (cars). he wouldn't get home till 3-4 am. my mom worked her tail off too and barely speaking enough english to get by.

we were very very poor (buying shoes for $10 was WAY over our budget at the time. usually like $5 shoes my mom found cheap somewhere). i remember once as a child i had to wear girl's tennis shoes b/c it was all my mom could find that fit me and was cheap. i still cry when i think about it. my brother had it worse, since he was oldest and was in middle school at the time. you remember those days right? very cruel.

well, my parents worked very hard and eventually made a better life for themselves and us. my brother has an awesome job and great family. we're all doing very well now. my brother is having his house built at this very moment (done in january) and these houses would fit right in the neighborhood ( a very upscale neighborhood).

i'm currently looking for a house (hopefully this month!!!) too. basically, we're all doing great. although you may encounter some hardships early in life, you can always overcome those obstacles if you work hard and NEVER let other ppl bring you down. no one can control you but yourself. i'm sure if you work hard, you will find happiness (whatever that may mean to you, whether it be money, family, etc) in the end. i wish you and your family good luck in the future. oh, CONGRATS on your new house!! i'm sure it's even more valuable b/c of the hardships you alll had to endure to obtain it. NEVER GIVE UP! i'm sure you and your family have more to look forward to each and every day!
