I just ordered 2 SGI 1600SW LCD displays (SGI was blowing them out for $550 refurb, $675 new), now have to hunt for a video card that properly supports the 1600x1024 resolution. Preferably one that supports dual-monitor operation. Ive emailed ATI about the Radeon VE (1 DVI, 1 VGA), and I think the Matrox G450 is an option.

Anyone have one of these and a video card the properly supports the resolution(under Win2k)?

Thanks.

SGI is phasing them out, apparently.

They're not taking orders anymore for them(at least until they get inventory counts updated), but it cant hurt to call and get your name on the list.

muhahahaha.. 3200x1024 or bust.

Yea those monitors were damn good for LCDs when they first came out. I wouldnt use one today for any sort of pre press work (far too inaccurate and ununiform [a word?]) but theyre just on the boarder of being acceptable for web work. And they look pimp : ).

I dunno about which graphics card youd need or what youd have to do to your pc to make it work. Macs with rage 128 pros, radeons, gforce2s, and gforce 3s have all natively supported this semi-widescreen format for a while now. Check the SGI site I remember them having a big list of compatible graphics cards. The monitors didnt come with number 9's? Maybe because of the clearence prices.

We got them at work which they mainly use for production machines (paperwork) on PCs... sorry, don't know the graphics cards. We still use huge monitors for image work still since they can be calibrated.

Damn, I think I will get on the list for a monitor at home tho.

Ive found a few cards the should support it alright. Just need to decide which one I want. The ATI Radeon VE looks good, with (possibly) the ability to drive one through DVI and the other through Analog.

Ive seen the "Widescreen Saavy" list at SGI, unfortunately it hasnt been updated for Win2000. Well see.. regardless, I cant wait. And I dont do any prepress stuff, Coding, Writing, Games, and a little Photoshop here and there.. I think two of these will be just fine
