Not sure if I should put this here or in Car Talk but I'm curious if anyone here has been to the Universal Technical Institute or Lincoln Technical Institute?

What did you think of the program? How long is it and how much does it cost? How much do they teach you about cars and automotive technology? UTI says they can teach you about racing, but they have a partnership w/ Nascar Do they or another school have a program that partners w/ other forms of racing?

I went to UTI, graduated and went back to college. To me since i already had a lot of automotive knowledge and experience i found it less than informing and really a waste overall. It is basically only good to get your foot in the door for a good manufacturuer program if you choose. UTI will not help you to get into automotive fields regarding racing .period. Their Nascar program trains you but doesnt guarantee job placement afterwards. I was told they had about a 13% employment rate with the people that finished the nascar program. If you want to get into automotive repair including racing, study your butt off, take all the ASE tests and then apprentice for 2 years with a race team/shop etc. and once you have achieved ASE master tech status you will have something that sets you above many other candidates.

move to california and go to art center. they don't do what you ask, but the school alone may have more pull than you are looking for.

Many of the maintenance/crew members of NASCAR teams are full engineers. Not mechanics, engineers. It will be hard to get into that with just tech school.
