Question for anyone here who works at a ?Veterinarian. I went to my local vet to get Purina 'DM' (Diabetes Management) (17lb bag think, not sure) and they wanted $33 a bag for it.

How much of a mark up is there on this stuff? Do they buy it for $5 a bag and sell it for $33 or what? Is there another place I can buy this DM? The grocery stores don't carry it and I don't remember seeing it at PetSmart.

Looks like you are doing pretty well for $33 for a 17 lb. bag. We have two dogs, both eat "premium" food, not specialty diet food or anything like this, and that comes out to about $30-35 for a 17 lb. bag. Not to mention, Purina's website has this listed as a veterinarian diet and says if your vet doesn't carry it, call to find out how your vet can carry it. It only seems to be listed on pet RX type websites for a lot more than you are paying, if it really is a 17 lb. bag.

no clue what the mark up is on vet sold foods. I know the it's not significant on normal pet foods in pet stores.
