Default Anyone interested in the USGP at Indy Sept 29

I've decided to take in the race this year and am looking to see if there is any interest in driving to/meeting at the US Grand Prix Sept 29th. I've heard that the general admission ticket is the way to go and the spectator mounds are awesome to watch the race from.

Anybody up for it?

I've been the last two years but the budget and other factors are making me pass this year. Gouge pricing for lodging is one major factor.

Anyway the mounds are pretty good but I would still get a seat for Sunday. It is pretty competitive getting a decent spot for Sunday in GA and its a long day of sitting directly on the ground. Seats are not that expensive, certainly compared to NASCAR or the 500, and nowhere near what it costs to see F1 in Europe.

In any case enjoy it...there is nothing like a real live F1 race.

I went in 2000 and 2001, and am going again this year as well. General admission is the way to go. Buy them before you go, because Friday and Saturday Gen Adm are the only ones you can get at the gate. You can not buy Sunday Gen Adm on Sunday. Not sure if you can even get them on race weekend. They have a 3 Day Weekend Gen Adm pass that is $50 a set. Which is $10 for Fri, $15 for Saturday and $25 for Sunday. You can also get a Fri/Sat 2 day pass for $25. They do not advertise the 3 day pass because they want to sell Race Day stand tickets, but if you call they will tell you they sell them. The mounds at turn 7 before tha back straight are the best. The mounds around turn 9, where the esses start are te best to watch the Porsche cup races. Because they go really slow and the bump each other. If you buy stand seats for Sunday, get something where you can see turns 1 through 7 real well. The straight sucks, because the cars are going so fast you can not see them. You can get stand seat during the weekend from scalpers, because it is legal to sell them there on the street. I do not know if this is true, but the past 2 years there have been a good number of people selling them. And they were usually under face value. Mostly $30 to $45. Also, get a parking pass in lot # 2, it is $50 for the weekend, starting Thursday at 7 AM until the start of the F1 race on Sunday. If you get one, try to get as close as possible to an exit. In 2000 it tooks us 1 hr 35 minutes (lot #5) to get from our parking place to the street, and 55 minutes (lot # 2) in 2001. Lot #2 is directly across from the track.

I am paying $378 all total for a room with 2 double beds for 4 nights. I have had my reservations since Febuary of this year. We stayed there last year as well. And in 2000 we stayed with a friend of mines mom for free. There are going to be 3 of us and it will only be $126 per person for 4 nights. Plus the ticket will be $50 for Gen Adm plus about $16 for the share of parking. All total under $200/person, unless we get Sunday tickets. This does not include airfare and/or gas money. One of us is coming from New York by way of plane and the other 2 (including myself) are driving from Columbia, SC to Indianapolis. It took us 10.5 hours each way in 2000, and 10.5 hours getting there in 2001. But, it only took us 9.5 hours coming back in 2001. We were in my 2000 Honda Civic each time. It is a total of 626 miles one way.

A group of 8 S2000 owners went last year, sharing a condo, and it was a SCREAM! We are interested in doing it again! Let me know if you are interested in sharing a condo (belonging to a local family, about 2 miles from the track), and we can work on trying to rent condos all in the same neighborhood through the lady we rented from last year!

I might be up for it...

1.100 miles due east on I-70... Can you say boring drive?

Could probably do it in a long day on the R1100. Easier to park too!

How much do you pay, on average, to rent a condo?
