Default anyone read Huckelberry Finn & Of Mice and men??

I decided to read 6+ books this year. i did this for couple of years a while back...

anyway, so far this year I have read Huckelberry Finn and Of Mice and Men.

Is it just me, or do these books suck!!!!???? Huckleberry Finn was stupid. What the hell are the chances of Huckberry Finn floating 1300 miles down the Mississippi to happen upon relatives of Tom Sawyer????

Of Mice and Men..... I didn't see anything special about it.... a big stupid guy who seems innocent turns out to be an idiot who kills stuff and people....so he gets whacked.....

Maybe these books were neat when they were written, but just don't seem so neat now.?

What should I read next? I read oliver twist, catcher in the rye, a farewell to arms, for whom the bell tolls, and a couple of others.

Huckleberry Finn is a children's adventure novel. It contains plenty of social commentary, as well. What are the chances a Missouri boy's best friend would be a run-away slave? Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn are really a set, you should read Tom Sawyer. Remember, these are chidren's adventure novels, in the vein of Treasure Island.

Of Mice And Men is about the relationship between two men, one of whom is mentally handicapped. He isn't a monster, just a person who can't function on his own. He deserved beter than what he got out of life. It is supposed to be tragic, not stupid.

Try Moby Dick by Herman Melville, or The Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad. Both Melville and Conrad write about life at sea, and both are excellent. Anything by F. Scott Fitzgerald is good. The Great Gatsby is his most famous novel, but others are great, too. Anything by Hemingway is good, and his novels aren't that long, typically. Steinbeck has a number of great novels, as well.

Catch-22 is a good book. Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn by Henry Miller. Anything by Anais Nin.

Some of my favorites are anything by Camus or Sartre. Ayn Rand is pretty good, too.

I did read the great gatsby...it was at least ok....

I also read the scarlet letter, clockwork orange and death of a salesman.

I will try some of the books you guys listed.... hopefully there are some pretty pictures for me to look at.

99GT - I guess I forgot I was supposed to have read these books back when I was 12.... i was too busy smoking cigarettes and not scoring.
