Default Anyone still have AT&T wireless, not Cingular?

I still have AT&T wireless. Since the merger of Cingular, it seems Ive been screwed. I have a plan that Cingular can't even come close to, but I cant buy a new AT&T phone? No one sells them anymore. My only option seems to be the unlocked phones on Ebay, but all the sellers seem shady and Im not sure if the phones are new. Also, customer service stinks for both companies. Neither seem to be able to help me. All they do is transfer me back and forth. Plus I just found out that if the new unlocked phone is not under there AT&T list, they can not activate my internet browser.

Anyone else in the my shoes to? Any recommendations on where to get a new phone?
Im looking for the Audiovox SMT5600.

look at it this way. u want to stay with att even though they're pretty much dead now and do not offer much new stuff.

yet u want to have all the features u want like ur old phone..

sometimes we gotta compromise. if u stay with att, gotta use the old ass phone or use the new phone without the features u want...

if ur paranoid about ebay. hit up mom n pops phone shop instead of those cingular/att official stores. they have better phones and better prices

I get 1500 anytime, free nights weekends, mobile to mobile, and 100 text a month for 39.99. Wouldnt you stay with them?

Its just BS that all AT&T customers are all screwed and forced to change plans. Thats not compromise.

Mom and Pop stores dont carry unlocked phones. As of now I think Ebay is the only place that has them unless someone can show me anywhere else.

My girlfriend is going through the exact same thing. I think you also have to pay a $30 connection fee when you switch from AT&T to Cingular. We realized that the AT&T/Cingular deal was really just a big scam to force a whole set of mobile customers to buy new phones, change plans, and pay fees AGAIN.

SUBSCRIBE - curious to hear if anyone knows how to deal with this issue.

I understand that you would like to keep you current rates- I would too. But at the very least, with the merger, are you now permitted to get out of your contract? Then you could at least look at what Sprint and Verizon have. That's not as good as keeping your current plan, but I'd like to know if they are making you stay with Cingular, or if you're permitted to switch companies now.

Why would they charge you a $30 connection fee? It's the same company. If you had AT&T Wireless, you are already now a cingular customer. And you can keep your old AT&T calling plan until you choose to cancel or change it.

I've been with AT&T Wireless since like 98 or 99. AT&T sucked for phone upgrades anyway. It was much cheaper to buy a new phone on ebay than it was to get a new phone under their upgrade plan. In fact, when I wanted to switch from my old AT&T TDMA phone and plan to a GSM phone and plan about 2 years ago, I ended up canceling my AT&T TDMA account entirely and buying a new phone as a new AT&T customer. That was the only way I could get a good calling plan with a cheap phone. And I STILL could not get as good a calling plan as had signed up for in 1999 when I got the TDMA phone... Oh and I had to loose my old phone number too.

The bottom line is that AT&T/Cingular don't want you to upgrade your phone. So they price it to make it unattractive. What they do want you to do is commit to a new calling plan with a lock-in agreement that is more profitable for them, and then they will give you a good deal on a newer phone.

They only say that AT&T and Cingular are together, business wise. Try calling customer service, its 2 different support techs. The Cingular side can't help AT&T customers at all, they can't even pull up my account. Visa versa with AT&T side. Forget about going to Cingular stores and asking questions, they know noting about my plan or how to help me.

It seems like they're just forcing all AT&T customers over to Cingular.

you'll either have to buy an unlocked phone or find a phone that is locked to the AT&T Network. i usually go to eBay to find those...
