Users can control their songs and playlists from an earphone cord using a new VoiceOver feature, which announces the songs to users in 14 different languages. The feature is particularly useful on the Shuffle as it does not have a display screen like most iPods or other digital music players.
The controls are on Apple's garbage ear buds, meaning you have to use them unless you can buy an aftermarket set down the road.
Not an improvement over the 2nd gen, which imo had less usability than the first gen. At least the first gen you could plug directly into a USB port.

A simple device to control the new shuffle and allows use of any earphones...

I never understood the purpose of a shuffle.
Except storage capacity, none of the iPods have much functionality over the Shuffle that I'd ever use.

Meh seems ok, just a couple of weird things though:
1) This locks you into proprietary headphones. Without the headphones with controls the device won't even PLAY.
2) How do you go back to the previous song? I watched the videos on the Apple site but it only demonstrated going forward?
