Luder, I totally agree with you regarding the work ethic and the investment in children's future.

Whilst I am not Asian myself, my wife is Japanese and displays many of the qualities you describe.

Our major expense at the moment is $20k p.a. ($40k before tax) for my children's private school (primary and secondary) education. Thank goodness colege fees are not so high here in Australia!

I'm a proud poor 7/8 asian!
My father was a child of twelve.
Lived poor most of his life.
Had to split apples 12 ways.
He worked really hard but never really did well.
He tried to push good values and education to his children.
He hoped they'd graduate college.

I f'd up his dreams.
I never finished college.
I got really lucky and got into computers.
Met a good Korean/Irish woman who also came from a lower class family, but we encouraged each other to strive harder and maybe one day we'll have a better life to offer our Chinese/Cuban/Korean/Irish childen. But who knows.
