Default ATTN: Drummers

I'm in the process of tring to move out to LA to pursue my passion for live music. Here in Pittsburgh, i've been able to use my parent's van to haul my drums to shows.

If I move to cali, i definitely want to keep the s2, but i'll need a means of hauling drums too.

Is anyone out there using their s2 to transport drums (either through creative packing or a small trailer??) Or does anyone have any bright ideas beyond those two? Getting another vehicle is an option I suppose, but would result in

There was a thread a LONG time ago about a guy who put a hitch on his S and used it to tow a boat about a mile to its launching point and back to his house. It looked to be in the range of about 1500 pound fishing boat I think.

I would not recommend the trailer option unless it was really small and you could see well around it. It is not recommended by Honda, but you are talking about a very small weight load. Brakes should handle it fine.

You would need a place to store a tiny utility trailer though. Rental stuff is heavier duty and weighs a decent amount.

I take it back, the load looks like it is about ~ 2500 pounds.

I'm not sure of the towing capacity of these, but I would imagine it would work. Someone with one of these hopefully will chime in soon.

Yeah, thats what I was thinking of too.

I am thinking if I go with a trailer, I might custom-make it. Most 4x6 or 4x8 trailers are 5-6' high, which is not ideal for visibility. The single largest piece equipment I have is a 22"d x 18" bass drum. If the trailer were 30"-36" floor to ceiling, I could probably get gear in there and still be able to see out.

Of course, I'll need to store all the gear in either the trunk or the trailer so I can bring home any hotties I pick up after the show. haha

Choices:
1. Switch to a portable drum kit (blech!)
2. Bass drum, snare, and HW passenger-side, toms in the trunk?
3. Change cars. Find a Chevy Astro or some other indestructible piece of music hauler (for cheap)
4. Ditch the S

In the end, as much as I wanted to get another S, the Element won. Even though I'm not a drummer, the fact we can cram a whole band's worth of stuff in there rocks.

Yeah, I had thought about keeping it in the family, as well:
1. Acura MDX
2. Honda Element
3. Honda Pilot

I've never tried getting the bass drum into the pass seat. If i even could do that, I'd have to really work to get my hardware bag AND other gear into the trunk. UGH, i knew this day would come - haha. DAMMIT

you can fit a 16x16 floor tom(legs up or removed), your snare, 10"and 12" toms in the trunk, if you have a 20x18 BD it'll fit in the passenger seat, but a 22x20 won't (i tried and i couldn't close the door) as for your hardware you're on your own

or you can find a cheap mini truck and use that to haul your gear

It's easy to remove the passenger seat if you rarely move people around.
