Thanks, everyone.

The previous weekend we took a quick trip up to Yosemite. I'm sure glad that we didn't go up there for Marlana's birthday; we'd have driven half-way there and turned right around.

Our vet had recommended a woman as a pet-sitter while we're gone, and the Yosemite trip was her first assignment. Yesterday evening Marlana e-mailed her to say the we and the animals were all OK. This morning we got an e-mail back from her: she had had to evacuate as well, and was trying not only to get out her animals, but many of her clients' animals as well. She said that of all her clients we were the best prepared for evacuation.

Righ now my concern is for all of the people who have homes Northwest of us - Carbon Canyon, Diamond Bar, and so on - who are still in the path of the fire. We were fortunate; I hope that all of them are as well.

Marlana said that we may be having a neighborhood Thanksgiving dinner this year.

glad to hear your okay. i actually use to work for the Help Desk (up until 4 months ago. worked there for 3 years since I was 18) thats contracted to the USFS. every time California caught on fire we were on 24 hour alert status and making sure all their servers, equipment orders, and software never skipped a beat. the firefighters out there are GREAT people and a majority of them arent even from around the area. many of them do this part time too and when duty calls, they have to take leave from their full time jobs and family to help out.

I recall seeing fire engines from Palo Alto, Sacramanto, and Yuba City, to name a few places that aren't right around the corner.

They're awesome!
