Default Aussies...step up and explain this!!!!

JANUARY 24, 2002

Aussie Funeral Home Gets Liquor License
Copyright 2002 Deutsche Presse-Agentur

Mourners at an Australian funeral parlour can now toast the dear departed after the owner took out a licence to serve beer and wine on the premises.

"Traditionally a wake was where people were served alcohol and they would head for the pub or club or go home," Barry Turnbull told Australia's AAP news agency Thursday.

"But now families are dispersed, homes are small and people fly in from interstate."

Turnbull, the owner of Turnbull Family Funerals, said he envisaged just a few drinks to go with the sandwiches, cheese and biscuits that he usually served.

"If people wanted more than about an hour and a half, they'd have to be the last service of the day," he said.

Turnbull said he beleived his Hobart, Tasmania, establishment was the only funeral parlour in Australia with a liquor licence.

As an Irishman, I fully endorse having a toast or two in remembrance of lost loved ones.

Rather than be pickled in alcohol by an embalmer, I'd rather my friends have it!

"Hey, this vodka tastes a little funny..."

I have no objection to someone drinking a good beer

or a good glass of wine at my funeral.

In an Hour I don't think people are going to let you drink yourself into a stupor

and then get into a car and drive.

Unless they are looking for repeat and refferal business

An oldie but a goodie!

In place of "wedding", you can substitute "birthday party", "baptism," "first communion", "graduation", "Tuesday," etc...
