Some great "drunk" logic there.........

The Champ car is 400 lbs heavier than the F1 car ...... which is worth a minimum of 4 seconds.

This is like saying the S2000 would be capable of a sub 5 second 0-60 time if we could save 400lbs.....

That is not what I was trying to say. What I was saying was that the logic for the whole of the quoted piece was fundamentally flawed.......

Having said that ..... when you look at the rules that have been brought in to F1 over the last few years, including banning turbos, reducing the size of tyres, adding grooves to the tyres etc. all of which were supposed to slow the cars down, the teams have consistantly managed to bring the lap times back very close to the previous year's times.

I don't think that there is any doubt that if the track has corners, the F1 car would win in a head-to-head, whether the amounts of money spent on F1 are worth the advantages that they have over the Champcars....... well that is a different question altogether!!

The CART cars might be just as fast if they didn't have a pop off valve limiting the boost.

And besides, in CART a Honda won the race... in Formula 1, where did Honda finish?

Nobody needs to do anything. Each series has it's rules on engine formula, aerodynamics, tires, etc. That's my only point.

Just because one series races on a track and has faster average speeds than another doesn't mean the racing is more exciting.

In F1 you can pretty much predict where the teams will start. In fact in recent F1 races, each row has had matching colors. (Ferrari, Williams, McLaren, Jordan, .... Jaguar, Arrows, Minardi). Although the theoretical playing field is even, the teams with the money win. (Tobacco advertizing)

My take is, as if anyone cares, pretty simple. How many F-1 races do you go to every year? Oh wait, there's only one in America. I went last year and am going again this year. How many CART races can you go to? I can, without too much effort, go to 3-5 CART races in a season. In fact, I do! CART *is* much more accessible and at Road America a couple of weeks ago, I was riding my bike around the Champ car paddocks and I found myself right next to Adrian Fernandez. How close have you been to ANY F-1 driver? Hell, I love drag racing and I even find myself watching NASCAR (OK, only if there is nothing else on and I'm drunk)

I love F-1. And I love CART. Neither, IMO is better than another. These guys are all amazing athletes and ALL the cars are badass. It's a question of accessibilliy. CART is, IMO, America's F-1 and actually, the top speed on the Champ cars is higher than the F-1 cars. They have the pop-off valves, which sound pretty cool, but it's like the grooved tires on the F-1 cars...they are made to slow the cars and keep them more or less equivalent.

Wickerbill's breakdown of the speed/weight issues are pretty accurate. Yet, what does "better" mean, anyhow? Better in what sense? It's all totally subjective...

F-1 is awesome, but there are many prima donnas with huge egos and that turns me off a little bit. But CART guys seem to have their egos in check, for the most part, and are racing to win, but also racing for the fans. Real Racing. Real Sport. Go CART!

Destiny, I am not saying one is better racing the other, both are great venues for racing. I just prefer F1 because I am a hard core Ferrari fan , so I am glad to see that the F1 cars are quicker around the course....but I definitely have lots of respect for CART also .

Now if Ferrari was involved in CART, I would be more excited about it, but I still do enjoy watching CART without them...it just has not become as religious for me .

That's Texan for "read".

"Done read" is a common synonym.
