OT: I thought the movie was cool, but no one in their right mind would go that far. An ex of mine told me stories about how she used to be able to speak Elvish way back in middle school when she was obsessed with LotR. She never mentioned anything about being depressed because Middle Earth didn't exist.

No matter what they argue, at the end of the movie, the white man chooses to become one of the natives. He gives up all traces of his white man-ness in order to become one of them. That's a slightly different ending than Heart of Darkness or Dances with Wolves.
