Default B-52s

NO , not the terrible musical group, but the bomber. Isn't it one of the most awesome and beautiful planes? I mean, I love the SR-71 Blackbird and a lot of the fighters, but there's nothing quite like a B-52 taking off for a mission. Just my opinion.

actually it is pretty old and ugly. Maybe you are talking about the b-2 stealth or the b117

Nope. I'm talking the B-52. It may be a 50+ year old design, but I still think it is beautiful and very capable. It can hold more payload than the B-1 and B-2 bombers because of it's design. It may not be the fastest bomber, but it can hold more. That's why it is still being used. Because of the design of those other bombers, they ar better build for speed but not payload.

oh okay, different strokes for different folks. It is still pretty well designed. Did you know the stealth bombers are made out of carbon fiber?

I agree. Still a thing of beauty after over 50 years....

God bless our troops.

I still like the F-117s and B-2's better. The B-52 is outdated for me.

And how much do they cost per unit??? Probably as much as 3 or 4 B-52s would now. As far as it being outdated, that is true. Hell, it originally had propellers. However, an old Ferrari 308 is outdated, an SL300 Mercedes Gullwing is outdated, a 1975 Porsche 930 is outdated, but they were all awesome cars. Just like the old P-51 Mustang, the old bi-planes or tri-planes, the original jet powered German fighters. The fact that the USAF still uses this wonderful workhorse is a testament to the quality and power of the B-52. Kinda reminds me of Porsches original air cooled 911 or the original Beetle.

Had a bubba from work (still in the reserves) send these to me during the Afghani campaign. Still a lot a of pay-back sentiment going 'round for 911.

What I find so amazing about the B52 is it's longevity. We've reached the point where a grandfather, father and son (three generations) could have flown the same airframe.
