Default Baggage charge for Snowboard

Got a flight at 8AM and my friends back at school decided on a last minute snowboard trip. Problem is I have all my equipment here at home in Socal. So I've bagged it all up but can't get a straight answer on the baggage charge. My understanding from the website is that it counts as a regular bag charge, but when I called customer service the lady told me its free. So I need to hear from someone who's actually traveled on American with a snowboard.

If you think it's going to travel for free, I have a big orange bridge in San Fran I can sell you.

Look here and you'll see it's a regular bag charge unless it's oversized:

^ Yeah, why would they give a snowboard a free ride?

So I went, just in case anyone needs to know for future ref. your snowboard/ski's count as a checked bag. So for example I had one suitcase and my board. $20 for first bag and $30 for second is AA's policy. So I had to pay a total of $50. Also if you have a special bag for your boots that count's as part of your snowboard equipment, even if it's in a completely different bag.

Rather have herpes than fly AA. Jet Blue FTW!
