Default Bastardized Sayings

With so many "pet peeve" threads swirling about, I thought that I'd toss mine into the rat's nest: people's bastardizing old sayings or proverbs.

Two spring to mind:

"The proof is in the pudding."

(Sounds like a line from a Sherlock Holmes story: "Watson, if you check the pudding dish you'll find that the murderer's fingerprints are on the inside of the rim; chocolate fudge I believe.")

The proverb is: "The proof of the pudding is in the eating." In other words, it doesn't matter how good something looks; what matters is whether it does its job.

"Ignorance is bliss."

(This one's ironic; evidently only blissful people say it.)

The quote is: "Where ignorance is bliss, 'tis folly to be wise." If you're happy not knowing, it's stupid to try to find out.

Any others?

Or was it "Back To The Future II"?

(I think so. Darn these stupid brain cells; they both keep failing me!)

One I can think of is when people refer to a disappointing event as "A damp squid"

The correct expression is "A damp squib" as a squib (I believe) has something to do with fireworks, so if it gets damp there'll be no show...
