beefed up boxster
the next year's boxster looks like it will have a significant power increase.
from autoweek.com article on the revisions coming for the 911:
"For '02, the car (the 911) gets a 3.6-liter version of Porsche's six-cylinder boxer. The engine produces 320 hp - an increase of 20 hp over the outgoing 3.4-liter unit, which according to insiders, is earmarked for the Boxster."
300 HP Boxster?

if the boxster were to receive the 3.4L flat 6 it would likely be in the boxster s or maybe a boxster s2. either way, the car already is and will continue to be quite a bit more expensive than the stook.
apples to oranges (from a price and value standpoint) IMO.

Wow, if they really do that, I can say lots of people would be tempted to jump the wagon. But unlikely though because that would put the Boxster and 911 too close in performance department, a suicidal marketing strategy IMHO. Maybe a bump to 270-290hp?
Hmmm, I don't think they will make the performance of the only other Porsche (the Boxster) that close to the 911. The 911 is the flagship Porsche and I would expect that they would make sure that it stays at the lead of the pack...which at this point, is a pack of two cars.
But I would expect that the Box gets an increase, it's just not going to be THAT close to the 911 numbers. If they made them that close, then they would have difficulty justifying the additional $$$ for the 911, which is the classic Porsche, IMO.
Interesting numbers on the 911 though...I would need to change my underwear everytime I saw one of those in my garage.

I think the 3.4 will end up in a new boxster s, but porsche really needs to do more than their normal add a few hp/year. With m3, c32 and who knows what else soon to arrive, consumers have alot more choices in fast cars (and for less money). They need something besides the name to justify the extra moolah.
