So i will be studying in beijing this summer. Learning 2nd year chinese. Never been to China, dont really know what there is to do there. Anyone who has been or is from there have any suggestions or advice that i should follow?

 

great wall...always wanted to go there. haha. oh ya, when kids come up to you asking for money, dont give it to them.

 

um, don't go to that hotel with all the russian prostitutes...don't run around with a japanese flag...don't piss off any PLA soldiers carrying an AK...

Internet cafes can get pricey, and watch what you type...

yeah, watch out for those prostitutes, they'll mug you for everything you're worth (happened to a guy in our tour group)

then, there's all the touristy stuff: Great Wall, Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square...

Don't talk about you-know-what at Tiananamen Square

learn some Chinese...no one and I mean no one speaks English, not even at American hotels or banks...

 

i'll give you $5 bucks if you stand in the middle of tiananamen square and hold up a sign that says Independence for Taiwan...

 

most of them don't read/speak english, so that wouldn't help

besides, japan is a much bigger issue for them than taiwan...

i'll give you $10 if you run around waving a japanese flag
