I usually get Lucky jeans...not very expensive and also light weight.

I have many, many pairs... the really thin ones only last about two years before they start ripping because they are so thin.

Light jeans = Cheaply made jeans. Seems crazy you guys recommending lightweight jeans from expensive manufactures, the things are just going to fall apart (although most jeans are lightweight relative to the good ole' days).

Probably better off with a comfortable pair of outdoorsy pants (they can or cannot look the part), made by some outdoor company. Gusseted crotch for more comfort, made of some lightweight durable material, ect...

something like

outdoor research equinox pant

Arc'Teryx Rampart

or

Merrell Course Pant

Weight directly correlates to quality? Perhaps they will wear through more quickly.. but fall apart? jokes.

More or less. Quality of denim (something completely different from quality of the cut/sewing/wash) is measured in ounces. Go to carhartt.com (or some other company whose products are designed for heavy wear) and they proudly advertise that they use 14/15/16 ounce denim.

from denim glossary

Weight
Denim is traditionally graded by its weight per yard of fabric at a 29-inch width. Early jeans were nine-ounce Levi
