Best Place to Visit in America?
They're in their late 30's, early 40's?
It's probably going to be either NYC or DC as they mentioned, but they also added taht if it's going to be "too cold", they'd like to see CA or FL. What city do you recommend for CA or FL to get a good idea of "American culture"?
What are some good stops to take them to in those places?
Good advise so far...
Thanks!

I'd plan for whatever city they land in, with possibly one hop to somewhere else. If they want American culture, take 'em to the 'burbs.
Two hours at a dive bar will tell you more about a place than you ever wanted to know.

Hawaii. You can go with and have a great time and also cut their flight home in half if they leave straight from there. Wheater is great and the Japanese make up about half of the tourists to Oahu so the island caters to their tastes.
Although I prefer Maui. No place I like better.
Other wise quickie cities I like to visit would be Frisco, New Orleans (stay to the well lit areas
) and Seattle. I used to say Vegas but I am bored with it. Burned out.

I wonder what they would think about the Christmas tree in Rockerfeller in NYC, them probably not being Christians... Japanese cities are very clean - NYC is no dump, but I wonder how they would think about NYC's patina, especially in winter.
Do they speak English? Braodway showws can be great if they understand the language (and the writers aren't on strike). Imo, unless you're going for the shows and dinner (and maybe shopping), NYC is not that exciting.
Japan is a small country and land is at a premium - seeing the large waterfalls and expanses of land could be breathtaking for them. Dare I say take them to Nebraska so they can look at a corn field? (haha, I kid)
I think Niagra is better in the summer than winter, but The Grand Canyon, The Badlands, Giant Sequoia trees at Grand Teton National Park, and maybe Native American Indian reservations you can visit would probably all be nice.
Personally, I wouldn't take a visitor from another country to Miami unless I wanted to show them other Latin countries in the USA.
You could take them to DisneyWorld in CA, or are there any museums for Japanese American internment they might be interested in? Its an interesting part of US History that they may relate to, even if it doesn't show the US at its best.
In DC, you have the Smithonian museums, which you can spend two days going through, plus the monuments. From there its a short trip to Gettysburg, Philidelphia and the Liberty Bell, and then maybe into NYC.
Do they golf? Maybe Georgia or Arizona for some great golf courses?
San Fransisco is a great city for tourists imo... just brainstorming.
I'd say fly into San Fran, see that city, then head to the west for the National Parks, and do a classic American Road trip between the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone. Then go to Washington DC and see life on the East Coast too, including Revolutionary and Civil War parks. The United States is so diverse, I think that's what I'd do to show someone America in three weeks. Plus, if they do that, they've visited more of America than most Americans!

Once they land, are you going to be driving from place to place, or flying? I did a cross country drive from NC, to NV and it was great just seeing the landscape change.
There were several places I would have liked to stop on the way, but we were in a time crunch to get to Vegas by a certain day.
Just dont forget to take travel time into account
