Bicyclists on the street
Nothing seems to piss me off more than bicyclists that choose to ride their bikes on the street. In my town there is a bike path that wraps around a golf course yet there are some bicyclists the ones that think they are going to win the triathlon or something (you know what I'm talking about) that choose to ride their bikes on the street this slowing down traffic. This pisses me off not to mention there is a designated bike path which they refuse to use. How would you all react to these people???
One day I decided I had enough and decided to park the car half on the street and half on the grass while I was at a red light forcing the bicyclist to get off his bike and walk his bike arnd me
. Of course he had to make a comment and give me the finger. I decided to give him a taste of what the stook sounded like at 9000!!!! of course on the opposite lane so I was safely far away from him. Would you react int eh same way as I did??? I know it seems a little immature...lol

Not to mention some idiots ride their bikes in the middle of two-way traffic, right on the center line. IMO, its fair game if they feel threatened of being too close when cars drive by. They don't own the road and have no more right than car drivers. You got my support
Yes that is the point that gets me aggravated and warranted my decision to block off the bicyclist. The fact there is a lane just for them two feet away makes me angry. What the guy feels he is too good to be in the bike lane or he's too fast in the bike lane that he needs to be with cars. Not only is him riding his bike in teh street a danger to himself but to other motorists. I have seen in many cases people being forced to swerve over to the other lane after realizing this fool is riding his bike on the street and is not moving.
Don't know about Miami <shudder> but there aren't many bike paths in NY, and riding on the sidewalk here is illegal. I can tell you that motorists display way more arrogance on the road than the typical cyclist, and they aren't much better to the guys on two wheels with a motor either.
Yeah...I ride, as a matter of fact I used to be one of those most really loved NYC Bike messengers.

This is a tough debate. Bicyclists irritate me too and aggravate me with their cocky attitude. I understand that car drivers can be jerks to them, but if they are going to be on the street with their bikes they should be weary of cars. It's all so relative too. I hate bikers for another reason, they use their large size and speed to bully people on trail/paths where people walk, jog, or rollerblade hippocritically the same way cars bully them. I guess in the end its who is king of the particular road!
Share the road, it the right thing to do and it's the law.
I am a bicylist and a motorist, I love to do both!
Where I live, the edge of the road is not paved usually. If it is, it's full of stone piles, glass and potholes. Most of the time the road is crumbling at the white line and inward. Quite shameful.
A bicycle only has two narrow tires to ride on. Most of the time when I ride, I try to stay off the road, but it's impossible. It's safer to ride on or just inside the white line and do it steadily, than to ride over the unsafe edge of the road and no know when you will be dumped into the street unsuspectingly.
If you have bike paths and wide roads, consider yourself lucky. And I agree that bicyclists should try to stay off the road if there is reasonably smooth pavement available.
The worst thing you can do is hit a bicyclist. The second worse thing you can do is honk.

Cycling on the sidewalk is illegal in most if not all cities. Cyclists have the same rights to the road as any driver does. On the same note, they are expected to follow all traffic laws (ie stop signs, etc).
Most bike paths in urban parks, etc., really aren't very good for serious cyclists. The paths just aren't made to pound down the mileage on. You know those days that you throw the top back and go for a nice long drive? Well those are the same days that cyclists head out and ride 40-80 miles or more.
I'm not saying that they have a right to hog the road or anything, but they deserve the same respect when passing or driving near them as any car would.
Simply put, what you did was wrong. Regardless of how irritating or cocky they might be, they do have a right to be there. How would you feel if you accidentally did hit a cyclist because you were trying to pass without enough room? Would you like to pay their med bills? Would you like to explain to their family why you killed their father/husband?

Rant over. And yes, I used to be a cyclist.
