I'm hoping that someone out there may know what new blackberrys may be around the corner. Here is the story. I have an older one, 7130 (like the one pictured below). Works fine, have had it a few years now. The other day, I get a call from Verizon asking if I am interested in upgrading. I'm half way thru my 2-yr contract and if I re-up for another two years now, they will either give me a Pearl for free or a Storm for $150. Not interested in the Storm for a few reasons but the Pearl seems like a no-brainer. Here is the 'but'. I noticed that, on the verizon website, it says 'while supplies last' for the Pearl which tells me that this phone is either at the end of its run or no longer being made. What I don't want to have happen is to get a Pearl and re-up for 2 years only to have a newer version show up in a month or two.
So, anyone have any insight? Is the Storm the direction of the future? Or is there going to be a new Pearl-type upcoming? For what its worth, I actually like the auto-text (2 letters per key). Thanks guys.
T-Mobile has the new 8900 (refreshed Curve) that is due out in a few weeks (Feb). I can't wait to get one as its a slick device. I've been using a BlackBerry for years and I've played around with a demo 8900 and was instantly in love with it!
Of course, if you're wanting to stick with Verizon, you may be limited...as you know, they have the Storm and they are pretty content... Of course, personally, I think the Storm is excess. If you REALLY use a BlackBerry, you'll want a dedicated keypad.
As a Verizon Wireless employee, I can tell you we are getting more new RIM products in the near future. There will be a replacement for the Pearl soon and a new version of the Curve with a touch-screen. The storm is cool but the biggest problem is its software. Its SLOWWWW. Once they release totally new software for it, then it will be a true competitor to the iphone. But as it sits now, I will stick with my Curve. Give it some time and you will see new RIM stuff from VZW...
FYI, I have replaced more BB Storms since they have been out than any other new phone. Its still quite buggy. Stay away from the Samsung Omnia as well. You may want to look into the Samsung Saga. Its a cool phone! Check out phonearena.com and crackberry.com they will give you more info than you care to know.
I have an 8830 and I'm pissed I got my phone through Sprint and right after I got it they started offering the Curve. The Curve is a great phone!
Someone here at work has the Bold and that is a great phone too. The screen display is very very nice. A guy here at work just got the Storm as well and he had to get a new one b/c the voice dialing didn't work so that falls in line with what Jamison just said.
Either way get away from the pearl and get a Curve.
I have a Pearl and love it (the newer one with wifi ability).
I'd prefer the Storm, but am not going to switch companies and shell out the extra money. When my contract is up or I switch companies i'll worry about the touch screen.
It's a question of how much you text vs. browse. The physical buttons on the Pearl make it much, much better for texting. The true brower on the storm makes it much better for internet.
Imo the BB Bold is the only BB to get. Verizon is just trying to lock you into a longer contract. If you're happy enough with what you have now, I'd wait the last year out, or just buy a device not attache dto a contract.
