Thumbs up Bowflex SelectTech 552 Dumbbells

Anyone have any experience with the Bowflex Selecttech dumbbells system?

It looks like a good solution to replacing a full dumbbell set, just wondering how they hold up to normal use.

I have them and they are awesome. Only thing I didn't like about them were the grips were pretty rough for my little girl hands Haha. I wrapped them with some tape and that fixed that. Had mine over a year and they still work great. You do have to be careful about dropping them.

I had them for about 2 years, they are great! There is cheaper alternative from different company, and they look the same.. If you wait, bowflex usually have sales on the holiday, where you cant get it for cheap.

I always had concerns about the durabilities of them since every time I see them on display, they are broken.

I have a pair of Weider PowerSwitch 100 lb.. basically the same as what you're looking at, but less expensive.

They work well.. construction is good, grips are great. You just have to be careful when removing and repositioning the weights on the stand.. if you don't lift straight up and down, you will have issues (not a big deal).

I've had mine for about 5 years and no problems. They can take some abuse but I've always been a little careful with them since I know there are gears and springs and mechanical things inside. Nothing crazy, just common sense stuff like I don't just drop them to the ground when I'm dead tired.

Very convenient to be able to change weight just by turning the dials. Saves space and time since you don't have to have a whole rack of different dumbells or add each plate individually.

I've always wanted these type of weights. Oneboy, you don't mind your hand inside the "cage" of the Powerblocks? Based on everything I can read, I'm leaning toward Ironmaster Quicklocks. Maybe I'll have to check out the latest Bowflex/Weider construction because their adjustment speed is pretty awesome.

You dont even notice it when you use them. The only thing that they get in the way for are pullovers.

Be sure to browse craigslist in your area - these seem to come up for sale used fairly often here, usually at a decent discount compared to new.
