Default Boxing and MMA

Hello my fellow s2kiers!

I started this thread to see if there are any other boxing or MMA fans on the site. So, if you are, make yourself known!

Huge MMA and boxing fan here. Can't wait to see shamrock vs ortiz tomorrow, i'm stoked that its free on spike. Also looking to see Silva take on rich franklin this month as well, its going to be a kick ass fight. Both awesome fighters and excellent strikers, Silva looked good against chris Leben when he knocked him out in the 1st round.

Wow, there are fans in here!!

Yeah, it's a good thing the Ortiz/Shammy fight is free, because it is totally unecessary!

Anyway, you didn't mention Pride at all, and that is coming up real soon too! Their first US show looks to be a very solid card!

Speaking of boxing, did you happen to check out Showtime or HBO this past Saturday? There was this Russian boxer on HBO who is literally a giant! Nicolai Valuev is his name. That guy was monstrous!!!

I was a fan from back in the day when they had to win multiple matches in one night. Ground and pound, baby!

Me too, when there's no weight class and little to no rules. I hated Gracie, all he does is grapple and choke others to submission. But it works, i guess that's all that counts. BTW, who won the Gracie/Hughes fight?

As for boxing, heavyweight sucks. Hot news has been in the lower weight class, that's were the great fights seems to have been happening. I'd like to see more of Floyd Mayweather, last i heard Him and Delahoya is actually going to happen.

Dude, i love Pride as well and can't wait to see the championships. I'd love to see Vanderlei Silva take on Chuck Liddell and I'm hoping that the UFC will be able to set something up. Jackson from pride gave Liddell a loss back in the days, i believe it was 2002, but silva beat jackson twice. Both stand up fighters, Silva w/his kick boxing and Liddell w/his kenpo, i'm sure it will be an awesome fight.

was a fan of boxing, but unfortunately, it has turned into a joke with the loss of a lot of the top names. the heavyweight division is pretty lean as well. i dont watch much boxing nowadays, unless oscar or mosley are fighting.

valuev is huge, but his skills fall short of his physical attributes unfortunately.

as far as mma goes, i train bjj, and our instructor is mark hunts grappling coach. so i am a fan off the sport. i would say that pride is easily the better organisation than the ufc. the ufc unfortunately has a lot of uneducated redneck fans that have been converted by what is telecast on spike tv. it seems like that the majority of the fans have come from a toughman/ streetfighting background.

and as disco j has clearly shown with his response, the lack of appreciation for the skills of submissions and jiu jitsu, and his love of the mauling pounding style of mma goes a long way to explaining why the ufc is the lesser organisation.
dont get me wrong, i watch the ufc, but u have a look on the fight card, and its a who's who of bush league fighters. with maybe 1 or 2 name fighters.

go to mma.tv for all ur mma news

like others have stated boxing is going down hill....I'd like to see mayweather fight de la hoya but thats about it for boxing....

I've been watching this fairly new guy from pride, Denis Kang and he seems to be pretty good..

and for ufc..haven't seen any ufc fights in a while.

Peace
