According to the latest issue of Road & TrackPorsche will be coming out with a coupe version of the Boxster. It supposedly will have the clear, retracting roof (not a true convertible, more like a targa). Is this significant; does anyone care?

Doesn't look to bad IMO. Now if they can only make it "affordable".

In theory, the coupe version can have better drag characteristics and weigh less since they don't have the huge X bone frame...

It might be much faster...

In Porsche forums I've heard rumours about a coupe version of the Boxster. I like convertables, personally.

But why bother calling it a "Boxster." It's no longer a roadster with a boxer engine. Boxoupe? Heh.

I wouldn't mind it if Porsche introduces a new non-SUV product line. Hopefully they'll make enough money to run with the big boys again in endurance racing.

Exactly, seems a bit pointless to me but I expect it would sell in bucket loads because it is a Porsche.

I agree Andy.
I fact (I am ready for flaming after this!) I seriously considered the Boxster over the S2k. I thought it was a lovely car, the shape is awesome, power and handling great. But two things stopped my. Firstly the S2k was seriously cheaper than the Boxster "s" (which is the only one with reasonable power) and secondly my wife said "I would not be seen dead driving a Porsche"
A bit of inverted snobbery there but you know what she means. For people who don't know that much about cars the name is everything with the Porsche.
Owning the S2k I think sets you aside a bit as someone who likes a car for the way it is, not for the name on the bonnet!!

I could not find the link but sometime last year, someone from the Corvette forum posted that he has been invited and attended to a private show by Porsche with ~40 other different sports car owners. He claimed that they showed them the new Boxster Coupe and asked for feedback. If I remember correctly he wrote something like 260 ish hp, lighter and cheaper than the roadster. That was the first time I heard about the Boxster Coupe and he was given hard time on the forum. He also said that although he does not like the Boxster, the coupe looked sweet. I hope Porsche reveals real pics soon!

The same article mentioned a new Porsche, the 998 coupe (front-engine, rear drive), which will have the same V-8 as the new SUV. They also said that the 911 may even get the V-8.

I don't know what's the deal with Porsche ... They already have so many coupes in the lineup, why do they need another Boxster Coupe? Oh well, I don't know much about Porsche cars and I'm not in the right to comment about it. I just think that I'll rather buy a Carrera 911 model instead, after all the Boxster seems like the base model of any Porsche and it does make me feel quite cheap driving one of them around.
