A Brand New M48/98 Mauser Rifle!!
I just picked up, if you can believe it, "brand new" Mauser 98/8mm. Never been fired and is a 1940 vintage with bayonet and cleaning kit. What a find!! The guns were found in Yugoslavia. Still maintained and cared for all these years. By NRA standards it is graded in "as new condition". I was really fortunate to find it. What a piece of History. I'm just tickled to death. Anyone else here collect Historical Firearms?

Hey Phantom,
Have you shot both types? I have researched and found that Amalite and Bushmaster are the best in my price point, but havent shot either. The armalite is more expensive by a couple bucks, but I would get a good deal on it from a buddy. Can you elaborate on your preference to the bush?
Best regards,
Wynn

wdavis ............. Go with the ArmaLite ! At the Camp Perry shoots in both civilian and military, Armalite/Eagle rules. Both ArmaLite and Bushmaster use forged receivers, not cast, and then hard coat anodized parts, no paint like the cheaper makes. ArmaLite has been making the AR line of rifles for over 40 years, ever since Stoner first invented the action. ArmaLite parts are fully interchangeable with military rifles, except for the full auto stuff. Not even Colt can say that about their commercial guns. ARs can be bought in 3 different calibers, .308, .243, and .223. The AR10 was Stoner's orginal gun in .308 cal.
JRM ..... I have a pre-1930 Winchester Model 42 shotgun, with a solid rib and Grade 5 engraving. It is a rare .410 with a skeet choke.

StwoK,
The armalite is my fav of the two. It just looks like a nicer gun and thier history is undeniable. I've had my eye on an M15A2 Carbine, but Im thinking twice about going for a flat top so I can have more options for scopes than a red dot.
OR should I forget the rifle and pick up that stainless Sig 220 that has been calling my name? Hmmmmmmmmmm decisions decisions.

wdavis ........ Go for the M15A4 flattop, you can always pickup ArmaLite's detachable handle and front sight, which includes NM sights. You can have the best of both worlds, open sights or dot. The M15xx is fun to shoot and very easy to clean (for a rifle) you'll love it! The SIG is nice, I've always liked a modified 1911 frame or for a stock gun, a Glock.
