Default Bringing home CA Wine

I'm heading to Cali for vacation (Look for ElTianti at the Historics!) and
I want to bring back some wine. What's the deal, can I bring it on the
plane? Can I ship it? Anyone know?

Thanks

Chuck

you can bring alcohol on planes...I even did it once as a minor. I was on my way home from visiting my Grandfather in FL and he gave me a box to carry of his homebrew. I took it as a carryon so it wouldn't break.

Unless rules have changed you can carry on or check beverages on planes. You should also be able to ship it via UPS or FedEx or USPS or any of those. I've done it a bunch of times on airlines and had stuff shipped to me in the past, but it's been a couple years and things may have changed on the airlines post 9/11, but I don't know why they would...

I dunno if you can carry it on anymore, enquire when you are flying out here, or at the winerys. They are set up to help you in whatever capacity you want. They have great cardboard boxes for the wine. It usually is not recommended to ship wine during the summer, especially a heat wave like now. In the end just enquire when you get to the winery (preferably before a whole day of tastings.)

I only learned this because some mega wine snob told me as he talked me into joining the winery and blowing cash (this after a long day of tasting wines)

I used to be accused of being a beer snob because I was the only kid in college that wouldn't go to a kegger unless they served a microbrew...

I actually converted most of my friends in college. We settled on a happy medium...Henry Weinhard's. Now I've mellowed with my tastes. I still enjoy a really good beer, but I can also sit back and drink Bud Light if that's what's there. Granted, the ONLY time I buy cheap beer is when I used to go on camping trips or four wheeling...

If you are going to wineries for tasting, don't buy the wines at the winery unless they tell you it can't be purchased anywhere else. You can usually buy them for less at a wine shop. If you come to Napa, try JV Liquors. That said, be careful to get the same year and same vineyard you liked, or it may not taste the same. If you are in a state that they can ship to, ask if they have an internet site you can purchase off of and have them ship it to you. Beats carrying cases through the airport lines.
If they are in your trunk, watch out for heat.
