It just occurs to me that with the future as the judge of righteousness, the public condemnation of this "radical" pastor's proposed Koran burning, by political and military and social leaders of all persuasions, is the most important part of this story. As some have referenced, the religious oppression and defiant desecration of holy symbols of Christianity and Judaism by radical muslims does occur, but when those stories break they do not go on to state that the vast majority of the citizens of X country rose up to say "that is not the way we are." The fact that we do stand up to oppose this guy is what makes us different, and with history as our judge, I'd prefer to be on the side of right and condemn hatred in its varied forms.

I get those.

I find that the fewer synapses you have left, the rarer the occurrence.

Some of you have really strong opinions, almost leaning toward Islamic hatred.
I actually believe all religions are b.s, so this whole "burning of the Qu'ran" doesn't really insult me; however, I think what this idiot Terry is doing will cause a large retaliation toward U.S. troops in the Middle East.
If this moron really does love the United States, just back the fuck down and let our troops come home in one piece.

P.S: Why does your God (whoever He might be) tell you that your religion is the one that will lead you to everlasting paradise, while my neighbor's God tells him that his religion will lead him to everlasting paradise? Why are there so many different religions, thus different Gods, thus one group lives in "heaven" ( ) while another burns in "hell"?
I am IN on this sucker.

FIRST
If some dude in the Middle East burnt a bible, do you think this pastor asshat would turn to the first brown guy he sees and would say "well, you've gotta die." Of course not. This whole book burning business is symbolic or a lack of willingness to condone this particular religion which has lead to the death of many thousands of innocent people. HOWEVER. None of the religions being discussed here are inherently malicious, but the interpretations are. Like how a gun doesn't kill people, but people do.

SECOND
Did you ever think that your "heaven" might not be someone else's hell? Why don't people just accept that your final destination (heaven or hell, if you believe in those) will be different for every person. One person's god will be there keeping them company, and another person's different god will be there with them. As far as why there are multiple gods, it's because they're a fabrication of and interpretation of some higher power by man. Other people just heard about one they liked the idea of, and got on board. Put 200 people in 200 rooms to come up a theory on the same topic, and you'll end up with 200 variations.

The irony of the whole situation is that the verbal outcry against this stunt is only bringing more publicity to it.... thereby increasing the probability that news/word/video of its occurrence will reach the Middle East.

I could burn 1,000 Korans quietly tonight and nobody would give a s**t.

Let the man do what he wants. That's what this country was founded on, right? I may not agree with what you're doing, but I'll defend your right to do it.

We Americans preach tolerance but are only able to control what goes on within our own borders. We are expected to practice it at home. Nobody said there was any religious tolerance in Saudi Arabia. That isn't the point. That tolerance should extend towards Christianity and Islam alike, if we're talking about what happens in the US. This jackass in FL should be free to burn the Quiran, I should be free to call him a jackass, other people should be free to tell him his actions will cost American lives (whether or not that's true), and he should be allowed to make up his own mind what to do. Saudis are asking us to tolerate Islam within our own borders, even though they don't tolerate other religions within theirs? Damn right, because that's what we Americans do and what makes our country great. You can't hold Saudi Arabia to the same standard as the USA. We have a shitload of problems but the set of principles our country was founded on still is light years better than 99% of the other countries in this world.

Well said.

I am completely against the burning, but it still blows me away that they destroy Bibles in Muslim nations and stone missionaries to death, but are asking for tolerance here. I find the nations to be hypocrites, especially if one understands the genealogy of Islam. I have very good Muslim friends, and I have no problem with their religion, but iwill call a hypocrite a hypocrite.

The biggest thing that turns me off to Islam is how in the Qu'ran they treat women as if they are less than human, and they treat the "infidels" as animals/enemies. My friends try to argue around these passages, but it seems pretty clear to me.

And I love seeing these radicals on tv preaching about the destruction of Western civiliztion while they are wearing eyeglasses, watches, talk into a camera, using the internet, cell phones, and wiping their asses with toilet paper (some). They would bever be able to produce anything advanced. Most of these people would be living in huts, barely able to feed themselves were it not for the "evil West."

Envy?

Btw, it's been said that Bin Laden is on a dialysis machine. I don't think they built it themselves out of a pile of sand and rodent droppings . . . If they are going to be at war with the west, they shouldn't be able to pick and chose what western influence they want to exclude.
