Cable modem......WOW!!!
I just got cable modem today and all I have to say is.......WOW!!! This thing is very fast. I was thinking about going with DSL but thanks to many opinions, I went with cable. Well, thanks for listening.....
Now for something serious, while you're all impressed with your new broadband services ... You should be testing to see if it is really want you're paying for. Try the CNet Bandwidth Tester, that is pretty accurate in generic terming - http://webservices.cnet.com/bandwidth and you can boost it up using a program called - Windows Network Booster ... Look under the downloads and utilities section, it's donationware and definitely gets the speed up lots more for Windows puters.
here are my results from work.
Connection Type Connection Speed
1.5Mb(DSL/Cable) 1.5Mb
You 29142.9 kpbs
that looks like a pretty good connection
i had dsl at my old house, but when i close on my new house friday i will get cable. just seems like you cant really beat the price of cable.

Be it DSL or Cable, it doesn't really matter. What matters is what your ISP has behind its doors (T1, T3, etc) and how many jumps that is away from a major backbone. You also want good local peering as well.
So my results were:
You 419.8 kbps -
I rarely download anything at less than 200 KB per sec which = 1600 kbps. Go figure.
Yup, cable rocks. I have had no serious problems yet, and the outages I've had so far have only been for a few hours. My business partner has DSL and he has nothing but problems. His outages have been for days too.
