long story short we make the connection to appreciating life consists of taking away the nice stuff we take for granted everyday.
examples: deprive yourself of food or good food for awhile to eventually make the crappiest food taste like heaven.
I seriously am considering living on the streets like a homeless person for awhile just so that I will notice and appreciate every little thing I have access to now.
anyone think that's stupid or why I shouldn't try it out?

You need to do whatever you feel you need to do to appease your conscience. That said, I agree with CKit. There's plenty of missions, spiritual retreat centers, Peace Corps, etc. that are out there looking for good people (or, people who want to do good things).
I did this.
It's called going to college.

Seriously though, I sold my S2000 (!) and live pretty simply (relative to most, I think) however I still have a lot of stuff.
I truly believe that the more stuff you have the worse off you are. I feel more free without things. I mean I still love music and would want a guitar, but in all honesty it doesn't take much to make me happy.
I'm the kinda person that would live off rice and water for a year, just to say I did it.
Living on the street is another story.
I'd say live simply. Try not to buy more things this year and appreciate what you have. Find something productive to do. Either volunteer or find a career that is fulfilling in itself.

you can try to appreciate what you have mentally, but there is nothing like genuine physical experience. im down with the peace corps etc, but they take a considerable commitment. im talking about a couple days every couple months just to wake yourself up.

. I try my best not to take things for granted, and I actually think I'm doing pretty well.
