Ok I have a question for you.

So I had to go to Seattle last week to speak at a conference. I am walking down the street and this middle aged guy tries to stop me and sell me some weed. Anywho this guys eyes were freaking weird. They looked like some special effect contact lenses from an episode of the Walking Dead. It was spooky looking.

The dark portion of the eye was not a well defined circle. The pupil was round, but the dark part was this jagged rough-circle and his eyes looked seriously messed up. It had the shape of just some random fried egg instead of round. What is that condition? He was African American if that is relevant to some genetically specific condition, but I had never seen eyes look so messed up before.

you are probably describing iris coloboma or corectopia. google has lots of pictures when search for those terms.

blacks have higher incidence of glaucoma. Maybe he had glaucoma surgery which can damage the iris. Possibly has to do with the Mary Jane he's selling (jk).

Its funny but I too was in Seattle last week on 3 occasions. I recall quite well seeing one individual who had "eyes". This person was not black but the shape of the non human irises indicated the presence of 'alien' contact lenses. I am not an ophthalmologist who might recognize the correct condition of your subject, but it seems there are people who like to wear strange contacts to see the effect on others.

Yikes. Neither look quite like I saw but the picures are pretty random so it is probably one of those. I felt bad for this guy. When he tried to get my attention I looked him in the eye and almost freaked. It was pretty bad and the way he moved it looked like he did not see real well. Poor guy. Those pictures look rough.

As far as contacts for a reaction, I know of what you speak but not this guy. He looked like he lived on the street and I doubt he had cash to accessorize.

Thanks for the info.

no worries unless the patient is under 40 or so then we worry about possible hypercholesterolemia. Its a completely normal finding in patients (arcus) over 50.
