can I return something that I didn't buy at the
ok. I bought a sony H-50 camera from sony styles but I want to return it.
It's not opened.
my question is can I go to 'best buy' and say that I lost the receipt so can I get store credit (because I want to buy a computer at best buy not at sony style)
(can't return it at sony style because it's over 30days)
i figured best buy has the same camera and the barcode for it should be same on every box right?
would this work??

Unless it's holiday season, Best Buy won't take things back without the receipt. If you don't have the receipt, then they look it up in your Reward Zone card number to see if you actually purchased it.
Circuit City and Wal-Mart are much easier places to return things.

I don't know if this is the case but the large stores sometimes purchase serial number xxx-xxx and won't take back items of any other number.
I'd say its probably fraud if you did, but in reality its no different that returning a gift to where it was purchased.
Without a receipt, they will probably give you the lowest amount the item sold for in the last 30 days or so (if it was on sale last week, you'll likely get that much, not what it is selling for the day you return it). And it will be in the form of a gift card or store credit, which is fine as you're going to buy something there.

No, if you do, you are actually ripping off Best Buy. The reason you don't see it is that you are only looking at it from your perspective. What you are doing is allowing Sony Style to keep their profit and trying to get Best Buy give you that profit plus the value of what they paid plus their fixed costs in that product had they originally bought, stocked and sold it.
Not to mention that you have probably opened and used the camera.
