Default Can someone help?!?!?

I just got an extra outlet in my room for cable and I hooked it up with the cable splitter so that one cable line goes to the cable modem and the other to my TV set. Now my cable modem is working fine but I am not receiving any channels. What may be wrong?? Is it not working because my primary setup was for cable modem and therefore, there are different signals???

You'll probably get a better answer from a professional eventually, but I think you're right that the cable modem uses a different frequency or something than the TV. You could probably just call your cable company and ask them if you can use the same hookup.

That's the way the cable company did mine. It might be your signal is too weak. Try an amp, or have the cable company come out and test the line for signal strength. Also, does the cable on the tv work if you don't split the signal to the modem?

When I had my internet connection done, the installer put in a splitter on the outside of my house. This was no ordinary splitter. I believe it was also a "booster" of some kind to bump up the signal. He also told me that most Radio Shack splitters lose quite a bit of signal as well as most store bought cable. You need to go to good electronics store to get a decent splitter that will not degrade the signal and get really good, well insulated, shielded cable to run to your modem and to your TV. He cable guy replaced my cheap cable with some good stuff he had and the picture was like night and day.

Most modern day TVs have built in converters and are cable ready, however, yes you'll need a decoder or a digital cable box if you want the pay TV channels.

My TV has a set up mode where you have to specify either TV or CATV. Your's may, as well. I've got my modem cable on a splitter and it works like a dream.

If you're getting some channels that are very staticy, then you need a splitter with a built in amp. You;re signal is just too weak to split.
