Default Can someone help me with some local Texas knowledge?

Hi, I'm a MCB owning UK owner and very rarely post over here, but I'm after some help from some locals.

I have been looking to buy a new lens for my camera for a while and have been looking at shiping one from the US due to the price of electronics and favourable exchange rate at the moment. I have found a supplier and was about to order when I have been asked to travel over to the States for business in June.

I am going to be travelling to Austin, Texas and would like to know if there are any local photographic stores there that I could buy from.

Can anyone help??

Rob.

I have posted this in the local Houston forum too.

Hello Rob,

You'll enjoy Austin - its a fun town. Its kinda hot in June though. Here's how to search for our local photography shops:

Go to www.yahoo.com
click on "yellow pages"
at click "change location"
type in zip code "78704" and click continue
next, type in photography in the search field

or

go to www.austin360.com and type "camera" in the search field and select
"yellow pages"

Other than that, this is what I came up with(you'll have to cut and paste it):

You should have no problems finding any lens you need in Austin.....great town (even if W used to work there).

What kind of lens are you looking for? What camera are you using?

Cheers -

I go through B&H photo. They have been pretty good on delivery times. Also in Houston, there is 'Houston Camera Exchange', that is where I bought my Canon EOS10D. They are typical retail prices.

Hope this helps,

Dale

I'm looking for either

Canon 100-400 IS ~$1500

or

Sigma 80-400 OS ~$1200

for a Canon AF fit (EOS Digital).

I have a couple of PMs that I am following up and am waiting to see if one of the local stores that someone mentioned has or can get stock for my trip

I have a friend that has the 100-400 L lens. It is a pretty good lens. I have the 70 ~ 200 mm IS L lens, with a 2x extender, essentially making it a 140 - 400mm.

I think Houston Camera Exchange has that lens. If not you could ask someone here to order it from B&H and pick it up when you get here.
