can someone please help me configue
just noticed the google ads have been moved to the top of the posts and like others i find them very annoying - checked the site info and it seems Cthree has deleted these ads from his gold member base however standard members such as myself must be subjected to the ads
Frankly i am tired of seeing ads EVERWHERE
here's Cthree's quote
"FWIW you don't need ad blocking software to remove the ads. You might want to spend some time learning a bit about how your browser is configured. It might come in handy someday."
so my question is how can i disable these ads when i use IE 6.0
Thanks

For IE, you can use a hosts file to redirect IE's requests for those ads. The file's contents are basically text, and there are pre-made examples floating around on the Internet for the more common ad servers. These links should get you started, but you can find a bunch more out there...

Personally, though, I like the greater control offered by popup-blocking software.

If you use Firefox there is at least one extension that can block most every ad you'll come across. It's very configuarble so you can even block the standard ad sizes, regardless of where the image is hosted (and variations that are less extreme). Even if you don't like extensions I'd still recommend everyone switch to FireFox. I personally think it's now better than IE in every possible way expect for the bookmark browser. It's really that good, and so much more efficient with its tabbed browsing -- you'll never go back. It's now painful to use friends' computers with IE. It's so damn slow and annoying now
The posts above all relate to telling Windows (not IE) to bypass your ISP's DNS entries for certain domains. For example, if you tell Windows that ads.google.com should always resolve to 127.0.0.1 (the standard address meaning the machine you are on) then any time a page's source has something from ads.google.com your computer will load in an 404 error page instead of the ad (since it asks your local machine for a Google page and does not find it).
