BTW, MajorHavoc, great pics. Where did you get that underwater camera case? I looked on Amazon and it didn't have that as an accessory for the S400.

The G5 is the latest top of the line "pro-sumer" model from Canon. Basically same body as the G3, but painted all black and with 5 Megapixels. It can be had for the low six-hundred price range now. I have the G3, immensely satisfied with it.

Thanks for the level-headed input, RM 4 2. Too many people get caught up in the MP craze.

I'm in the market for a camera and I'm a Canon fan just because of their speedy response time and the overall quality of the photos. Not down with Sony and their magic stick.

I'm really diggin' the S400 for its tiny size, but my one concern is that since you can't manually adjust the shutter speed, how does it handle pictures of objects in motion? Say a moving car or catching sports action?

And all those NY, NY shops like buydig.com... they quote you the lowest price, but they get you in "shipping and handling." I'd personally go with a more reputable shop and pay a few bucks more where actual post-purchase service exists (www.bhphotovideo.com).

Thanks in advance,

The "S" Series is a step down from the "G" series. The CCD on these Canon's are "THE BEST" in my opinion. I've field tested Nikon, sony, fuji,... and the others and bought a G2 about 1.5 years ago NEVER looked back. The Image and battery life is just the best. Sure Sony has a Carl Zeiss lens but the image is going through great optics to a Crappy CCD

My answer to your question, Don't get either, get a G2 for about the same price and be done with it.

Oh, if your BLINGIN' get the G5.

You do not want to sacrifice Size of camera for quality of pics. I've had so many of my friend and relatives brag about how tiny their camera's are and by mid-day they're asking me for batteries or e-mail addy so they can get a copy of what I just took. Also there are other things like auto-focus speed and shutter reaction time to think about. In the end Canon "G" series for consumer class is the best! Price vs Performance

www.megapixel.net is a great resource as well as dpreview.com or .net I forgot. Between the two of the cameras, the S400 is still a point and shoot while the S45 is a more professional one. The G3 and G5 are awesome though so take a look at those before diving in.
